SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 2:3

2:3a Then the sons of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and said,

The group/band of prophets at Bethel went out ⌊of the town⌋ to ⌊meet⌋ Elisha. They asked him,

-or-

There was a community of prophets ⌊living/based⌋ in Bethel. They went out ⌊of the town⌋ to ⌊talk to⌋ Elisha. They asked him

2:3b “Do you know that the LORD will take your master away from you today?”

“Did you (sing.) know that Yahweh will take your master away from you today?”

-or-

if he knew that Yahweh was going to take his mentor/teacher ⌊Elijah⌋ away from him that very/same day.

2:3c “Yes, I know,” he replied. “Do not speak of it.”

Elisha replied. “Yes, I know that too. Say (plur.) nothing more.”

-or-

Elisha answered, “Yes, I do know that. You (plur.) do not need to tell me.”

-or-

And Elisha told them that he ⌊already⌋ knew that as well and that he did not want to hear anything more about it from them.
