The Greek that is translated as “rooftop” or similar in English is translated in the German New Testament translation by Berger / Nord (publ. 1999) with Dachgarten or “roof garden.”

“If you would continue to suffer so much you would die and it would finish, there would not be any life left, but God has already chosen all the people who believe in me, Jesus, and He will protect them and therefore the suffering of all the people will be stopped.
“Listen, when people warn you that ‘the Christ is here’ and other people ‘the Christ is there’ do not fall for it (and say) ‘really, really?’, don’t believe it.
“In the future some false people will speak pretending ‘I am the Christ’ and other people will pretend ‘I am a prophet’ and they will do signs and miracles as proof and they will deceive the people, even you who believe and are already chosen by God they will want to try and deceive you.

If a person lives on the roof of his house and hears about this disaster, he should not go down to get his clothes, but quickly run away. If a person was walking in the field and heard about this disaster, he should not go back home to get his clothes, but quickly run away. And for pregnant women and nursing mothers, these days of trouble will be especially hard in winter. You pray to God that these days do not happen in winter. You all pray to God about this. Translation commentary on Mark 13:15
Text:
After mē katabatō ‘he is not to go down’ Textus Receptus, Soden, Vogels, and Taylor add eis tēn oikian ‘into the house,’ which is omitted by the majority of modern editions of the Greek text.
Exegesis:
ho epi tou dōmatos ‘he who is on the roof’: on the flat roofs the people spent much of their leisure time, especially in the cool of the evening, at the close of the day’s work, and here they would get the news, good or bad, passed from roof top to roof top. The roof was reached by outside steps (cf. 2.4).
dōma (only here in Mark) ‘housetop,’ ‘roof.’
me katabatō mēde eiselthatō ‘he is not to go down or enter’: as Lagrange points out, the two clauses do not prohibit two actions, as though they meant ‘he is neither to go down, nor is he to enter,’ but designate a single action, ‘he is not to go down and enter.’ In effect it is an order for the man to go down and flee at once to the hills, without taking the time to go into the house and get some of his belongings.
katabainō (cf. 1.10) ‘go down,’ ‘come down.’
Translation:
Not go down, as the result of literal translating, has implied in many instances that the person was instructed to remain on the housetop indefinitely. This problem, which is confronted in a number of translations, may be solved by shifting the negative in accordance with the requirements of the activity described, e.g. ‘when he comes down from the housetop, he should not enter the house to take anything’ (Tabasco Chontal). Compare also ‘the man on the housetop in going should not enter…’ (Southern Subanen).
In some parts of the world flat roofs are carefully distinguished from peaked ones. It is quite essential that as much of the meaning as can be conveyed in this passage be implied by the right choice of words. For example, not only should a word applicable to a flat roof be used, but the translation of ‘take anything away’ should imply, if possible, his own possessions. It should not, as in some instances, connote the stealing of someone else’s property which the thief has failed to obtain by trying to break through the roof and so proposes to take (as assumed by the reader) by entering boldly into the house.

13:15–16
The commands in 13:15–16 mean that a person should not delay at all. He should not take the time to enter his house to pick up his belongings. He must escape to the mountains at once. To show that the commands apply to the moments before running away, it may be helpful to begin 13:15 in this way:
There must be no delay.

(plur) not dawdle.

Let no one on the housetop: In some languages it may be more natural to translate this in a positive way, as the Revised English Bible has done:
If anyone is on the roof of his house, [he must not….]
If you have used a plural form in 13:14d, it may be more natural to continue to use plural forms here. For example:
If you(plur) are on the roof of your house, [you must not….]
on the housetop: Jewish houses had flat roofs. People often would sit on their roof in the cool evening and talk with neighbors who also were on their roofs. There were steps outside the house, leading to the flat roof.
It may be helpful to put a picture or a footnote here in your translation to show that Jewish houses had flat roofs.

13:15b
go back inside: The Greek phrase that the Berean Standard Bible translates as go back inside here means “go down into the house.” The man would have to go down from the roof by means of the outside stairway in order to flee. Jesus warned him not to waste time by going inside the house.
to retrieve anything from his house: A person might want to take his valuable possessions out of the house. Jesus emphasized that he must not delay in order to pick up his belongings. He must escape immediately.
General Comment on 13:15a–b
In some languages the command in this part of the verse may be difficult to understand because of the implied information about rooftops and outside stairways. It may also be awkward to make this implied information explicit in the text. If that is true in your language, you may want to use a more general statement. For example:
The person who is outside his house must not delay by entering the house to get his belongings.
If you use this option, you may want to add the literal translation in a footnote, along with an explanation about rooftops.
General Comment on 13:15a–b
In 13:15a–b Jesus told the disciples what they should not do. In some languages it may be necessary to add what they should do. For example:
you must just flee
