The region of Galilee. Jesus came to Galilee, to the lake, with his disciples. Jesus had healed many people before, made them well, and cast out many demons from people. Word of his work spread throughout Galilee. They also knew about him in Judea, in the city of Jerusalem, in Idumea, near the Jordan River, also in the city of Tyre and Sidon — in all these places people heard about Jesus. And people were coming to Jesus from everywhere. Jesus saw that there were many people coming and going to him. So he asked his disciples for a boat so that he could get into it and sail away from the shore when the crowds became too great. Many different sick people came to him. They all hoped that they could at least touch Jesus and become well. Jesus healed and cured everyone. Even the demons from the possessed people ran away when they saw Jesus. Some demons were shouting:

— Jesus! You are the son of God!

Jesus forbade the demons:

— Be silent! Don’t you dare talk about me.

After the transfiguration with Jesus on the mountain, he and his three disciples were on their way back. Jesus said to them:

— I am the Son of Man. People will kill me. I will be dead, but then I will rise again, then you can claim that I am the Son of God.

The disciples agreed. But they were confused and spoke among themselves:

— It is not clear… He will die and then rise again? What does it mean?

The disciples asked Jesus:

— Why does the Scripture say that Elijah must appear first? Is this true?

Jesus answered:

— Yes! Elijah must come first. And it has already happened. Elijah came and spoke to the people, preparing them to meet the Lord, but they rejected him. Elijah suffered much and was killed – just as the Scripture says. And the Scripture also says that when the Son of Man, which is me, comes, people will reject him, cause him much suffering, and he will be humiliated.

Jesus and his disciples came to a place called Gethsemane. There Jesus said to his disciples:

— Stay here, I’ll go and pray.

He took three disciples with him — Peter, James, John. The four of them went. On the way, Jesus felt a strong anxiety in his heart. He said to the disciples:

— My heart suffers! The time of my death is approaching. You stay here, stay awake, do not sleep. I will go and pray.

Jesus stepped aside, fell to the ground and began to pray:

— My God! Make this terrible suffering pass me by! You are my father! You can do everything. Please, make this suffering not happen to me. But let it be what you want, not what I want.

Then Jesus returned to the three disciples and saw that they were sleeping. He said:

— Peter! Couldn’t you stay awake for just one hour? You, disciples, be attentive, pray! Be prepared for the hour when trouble happens. The spirit is strong, but the body is weak.

Jesus went to pray again. He prayed the same words, then came back and again saw the disciples sleeping. Jesus called them, but the disciples barely opened their eyes, they could not say anything. Jesus went to pray for the third time, and when he returned, the disciples were still sleeping.

Jesus said:

— You’re sleeping sweetly. Enough! The time is coming when sinners will seize the Son of Man. Rise!

The disciples got up and followed Jesus. As they walked, they noticed a man in the distance.

Jesus said to his disciples:

— You see, a man is approaching along the road. He will betray me.

Jesus and his disciples came to the city of Jericho. After a while they left the city. Jesus was followed by a large crowd of people. By the side of the road where Jesus was walking with the crowd behind him, a man named Bartimaeus was sitting. He was blind, a poor beggar, and he was sitting there begging for alms. He heard that a crowd was passing by, and in it came Jesus from the city of Nazareth. Then he began to shout:

— Jesus, descendant of King David! Please have mercy on me!

The people around him forbade him to shout. But the beggar shouted even louder: “Jesus, descendant of David! Please have mercy on me!”

Jesus stopped and said: “Bring the blind man to me.” The men came to the blind man and said, “Get up, Jesus is calling you.”

The blind man got up, took off his cloak, and came to Jesus.

Jesus asked:

— What do you want me to do for you?

The blind man answered:

— Teacher! I want to see.

Jesus said:

— Your faith has saved you! Go!

The blind man’s eyes opened and he began to see clearly. He was very happy. Jesus went on and the blind man followed Jesus.

There was a town called Nazareth in the region of Galilee. That’s where Jesus lived. Here is the Jordan River. John the messenger was near it. Jesus came from Nazareth to the Jordan River. There He dipped into the water. Then He came out of the water and looked up into heaven. The clouds had parted in different directions. The Spirit of God descended on Jesus in the form of a bird. God from heaven looked at Jesus and said:

— I am very glad! You are my beloved son!

Jesus looked at heaven, then at the desert around him. Then the Spirit of God took Jesus and carried him far away into the desert. Jesus stayed there for 40 days.

In that place was Satan, who was persecuting Jesus. Satan hoped to tempt Jesus to make an accidental mistake. But the angels of God were protecting Jesus. There were some ravenous beasts around, Jesus walked among them. But the angels of God protected Jesus on every side.

Jesus went to the city of Tyre. There he went into a house. He wanted to do it secretly so that people would not know. But the rumor about him spread quickly, and everyone soon knew that Jesus was there. There was a woman there. She was a non-Jewish woman. She came to Jesus, fell on her knees before Him and begged Him:

— “Help! A demon has possessed my daughter. She is tormented. Please come and heal her, cast out the demon.

Jesus said to her:

— I have come for the sake of the Jews, because they are God’s children, and first of all I must feed them with bread. I cannot take the bread away from the children and give it to the dogs.

The woman said:

— Yes, that is true! But when the children eat bread at the table, crumbs fall on the floor and something goes to the dogs. The dog can take those crumbs and eat them. So can I…

Jesus said to her:

— Are you ready to be satisfied with crumbs? You can go home, the demon has already come out of your daughter.

The woman hurried home, entered the house, opened the door, and saw her daughter lying quietly on the bed, smiling, with no demon in her, and she was healthy.

Jesus continued teaching and said:

— Beware of the scribes! They love to dress in beautiful long robes, they love for people around them to notice them, to be respected, to bow to them when they meet. They also love to take the first row when they come to the synagogue, and they also take the most honorable places at feasts. And they also love to enter the houses of poor widows and take away all their property. They love to stand in front of everyone and pray long and volubly, so that everyone around can see how they pray. I tell you, they do all this on purpose. God will then severely punish them!
