Woe to you, Babylon and Asia! Woe to you, Egypt and Syria!: For Woe to you, see the comments on 2 Esd 2.8. For Babylon, which represents Rome, see 2 Esd 3.1; for Asia see the introductory comments on 2 Esd 15.46-63. The writer intends to include the whole Roman Empire here. Good News Bible combines the two sentences in this verse, which is helpful. Contemporary English Version also does this as follows:

• Babylonia, Asia, Egypt, and Syria, all of you are doomed!
