The Hebrew terms that are translated as “family” or “clan” or “house” or similar in English are all translated in Kwere as ng’holo or “clan.” (Source: Pioneer Bible Translators, project-specific translation notes in Paratext)

In the English translation by Goldingay (2018) it is translated as “kin-group.”

Aaron

The name that is transliterated as “Aaron” in English means “light,” “a mountain of strength” “to be high.” (Source: Cornwall / Smith 1997 )

In Catalan Sign Language and Spanish Sign Language it is translated as “stones on chest plate” (according to Exodus 28:15-30) (Source: John Elwode in The Bible Translator 2008, p. 78ff. )

6:54a Now these were the territories assigned to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clan for their settlements,

This is a record of the towns and territory assigned to those in the clan of Kohath who were descended from Aaron.

The descendants of Aaron’s grandson Kohath received/got the following land as their inheritance.

These are the places that ⌊God⌋ gave to the descendants of Aaron’s grandson Kohath.

6:54b because the first lot fell to them:

They were the first clan to receive/inherit/get land⌋ because the first lot fell to them.

It was determined that they would be the first clan to receive a territory⌋ because the first lot/stone/stick had their name on it.
