The Hebrew terms that are translated as “family” or “clan” or “house” or similar in English are all translated in Kwere as ng’holo or “clan.” (Source: Pioneer Bible Translators, project-specific translation notes in Paratext)

In the English translation by Goldingay (2018) it is translated as “kin-group.”

  • Kupsabiny: “These are descendants of the servants of king Solomon who returned: Sotai, Sophereth, Perida,” (Source: Kupsabiny Back Translation)
  • Hiligaynon: “The descendants of the servants of Solomon also returned from being-captive:
    The descendants of Sotai, Soferet, Perida, Jaala, Darkon, Gidel, Shefatia, Hatil, Pokeret Hazebaim, and Amon.” (Source: Hiligaynon Back Translation)
  • English: “Descendants of the servants of King Solomon who returned were:

Translation commentary on Nehemiah 7:57 - 7:59

For these verses refer to Ezra 2.55-57. The following names are spelled differently in Ezra: Sophereth instead of “Hassophereth,” Perida instead of “Peruda,” Jaala instead of “Jaalah,” and Amon instead of “Ami.” Good News Translation has harmonized the name Jaala with the spelling at Ezra 2.56, but it has not done this with the other variant names here.
