Translation commentary on 2 Kings 20:21

This is the usual formula indicating the transition from one ruler to the next. Hezekiah’s son Manasseh took control over Judah after the death of his father. For slept with his fathers, see 1 Kgs 1.21 and 2.10; for reigned in his stead, see 1 Kgs 11.43.

20:21a And Hezekiah rested with his fathers,

Then Hezekiah died and was buried with/by his forefathers.

When Hezekiah died he was buried where his ancestors were buried.

20:21b and his son Manasseh reigned in his place.

His son Manasseh became king after him.

Then his son Manasseh became the next king ⌊of Judah⌋ .
