SIL Translator’s Notes on Judges 19:28

19:28a “Get up,” he told her. “Let us go.”

He told her, “Get up. We are leaving now.”
-or-
He told her to get up and to go with him,

19:28b But there was no response.

But she did not answer him.
-or-
but she did not answer ⌊because she was dead⌋ .

19:28c So the man put her on his donkey and set out for home.

So he put her on the donkey and walked to his home.

Then he picked up her body/corpse and placed it on his donkey and started on his journey home.

20:30a On the third day the Israelites went up against the Benjamites

On the third day ⌊of fighting,⌋ they went out again to fight the Benjamin people.

On day three, they went back out to attack the people of Benjamin.

20:30b and arrayed themselves against Gibeah as they had done before.

They stood in the same place they had stood before. They stood facing ⌊Gibeah town⌋ ready to fight.

They stood again where they had been on the other days ⌊of fighting⌋ .

21:14a And at that time the Benjamites returned

So the Benjamin men went back to their own lands.

So Benjamin’s men ⌊came out of hiding and⌋ went back to their homes.

21:14b and were given the women who were spared from Jabesh-gilead.

The Israel people gave them the women of Jabesh Gilead town who had not been killed.

There they received the young women from the town of Jabesh Gilead whom the Israel people had not killed.

21:14c But there were not enough women for all of them.

However, there were not enough women so that each man ⌊could have a wife⌋ .

He sent Ehud to rescue them. Ehud was the son of Gera from the clan of Benjamin. He was left-handed.

Yahweh sent them Ehud son of Gera to save them. Ehud was a descendant of Benjamin. He was a left-handed man.

3:15c So they sent him with tribute to Eglon king of Moab.

The Israelites sent Ehud to bring their taxes to Eglon, king of Moab.

The people of Israel sent him to King Eglon of Moab. He brought their tax payment to give to the king.

4:16a Then Barak pursued the chariots and army as far as Harosheth-hagoyim,

Barak chased the chariots and the army to Harosheth Haggoyim.

Barak ⌊and his soldiers⌋ pursued the chariots and the soldiers until they reached Harosheth Haggoyim.

4:16b and the whole army of Sisera fell by the sword; not a single man was left.

They killed all the soldiers of Sisera. Not one was still alive.

5:24a Most blessed among women is Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite,

5:24b most blessed of tent-dwelling women.
