10:9a The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim,

The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan River to fight Judah, Benjamin and Ephraim,

Then the Ammonites crossed the Jordan River and attacked the clans of Judah, Benjamin, and Ephraim.

10:9b and Israel was in deep distress.

and the people of Israel suffered a lot.

11:23a Now since the LORD, the God of Israel, has driven out the Amorites from before His people Israel,

It was Yahweh, the God whom we worship, who forced the Amor people to leave as we advanced.

Yahweh the God of Israel helped his people to drive out the Amor people and take their land.

11:23b should you now possess it?

So do you now think that you can force us to leave?
-or-
You do not have the right to take it back.

12:15a Then Abdon son of Hillel, from Pirathon, died,

Then Abdon the son of Hillel died.
-or-
When Abdon the son of Hillel died

12:15b and he was buried at Pirathon in Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.

He was buried in the town Pirathon in the territory of clan Ephraim. That was in the hill country where the Amalekites ⌊had lived before⌋ .
-or-
they buried him in Pirathon. Pirathon was in the territory of the descendants of Ephraim, on the hills where the descendants of Amalek ⌊once lived⌋ .

14:7a Then Samson continued on his way down and spoke to the woman,

Then he kept going down to meet the woman. He spoke to her

15:19a So God opened up the hollow place in Lehi,

Then God split open the deep hollow which was at Lehi.

15:19b and water came out of it.

Water flowed out from it.

15:19c When Samson drank, his strength returned, and he was revived.

Samson drank the water and his strength came back and he was refreshed.

15:19d That is why he named it En-hakkore,

Therefore he called the spring En Hakkore.

Because of that, Samson named the place En Hakkore ⌊which means “Spring of the person who called for help⌋ .”

15:19e and it remains in Lehi to this day.

To this day, it is still in Lehi.

That spring is still there today.

16:31a Then Samson’s brothers and his father’s family came down, carried him back,

Then his brothers and his father’s whole family came to get him.

His brothers and the rest of his family went ⌊to Gaza⌋ and took ⌊his body⌋ back home.

16:31b and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of his father Manoah.

They took ⌊his body⌋ back and buried him between the towns of Zorah and Eshtaol. They buried him in the tomb where Manoah his father was buried.

They buried him in the same place his father was buried between the towns of Zorah and Eshtaol. His father was Manoah.

16:31c And he had judged Israel twenty years.

Samson had ruled Israel for twenty years.

18:19c and come with us and be a father and a priest to us.

Come and live with us (excl.) to act like a father and a priest to us.

18:19d Is it better for you to be a priest for the house of one person or a priest for a tribe and family in Israel?”

Isn’t it better to make sacrifices for an entire clan of Israel than for just one man’s household?”

⌊After all,⌋ it is better for you to be the sacrificer for a whole clan of Israel than for only one family.”

19:20a “Peace to you,” said the old man.

The old man said, “Peace be with you. (sing.)

19:20b “Let me supply everything you need.

I will give you everything you need.

Please let me take care of you.

19:20c Only do not spend the night in the square.”

But do not stay out here at the gathering place.”
