SIL Translator’s Notes on Judges 1:15

1:15a “Give me a blessing,” she answered.

She answered, “Give a blessing to me please.

Aksah said, “Please give a present to me.

1:15b “Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me springs of water as well.”

You have given me land in the Negev. Now also give springs of water to me.”
-or-
The land you gave me is ⌊dry land⌋ in the southern desert. Please give me some springs of water too.”

1:15c So Caleb gave her both the upper and lower springs.

And Caleb gave the upper springs and the lower springs to her.

Section 2:11–23

The Israelites stopped worshiping Yahweh

2:11a And the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD

Then the people of Israel did things that Yahweh thought were evil.

Then the people of Israel sinned against Yahweh.

2:11b and served the Baals.

They followed the Baal gods.

They worshiped the idols called Baals.

3:20a Then Ehud approached him while he was sitting alone in the coolness of his upper room.

Ehud approached the king who was sitting in the upper room of his house

But Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent peg and a hammer and quietly went to Sisera.

Jael, the wife of Heber, found an iron nail used to set up a tent and a hammer. She quietly went to General Sisera,

4:21c She drove the peg through his temple and into the ground,

She hammered the peg through his temple and into the ground

Sisera was exhausted and fell into a deep sleep. Jael, Heber’s wife, took an iron nail from the tent. She got a hammer and approached Sisera quietly. She drove the nail into his temple and it went through into the ground. Then Sisera died.

The wisest of the ladies of her court gave her an answer.
