SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Chronicles 28:22

28:22 In the time of his distress, King Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the LORD.

King Ahaz turned further away from Yahweh even when he was in trouble.

While all these bad things were happening King Ahaz disobeyed Yahweh even more.

29:27a And Hezekiah ordered that the burnt offering be sacrificed on the altar.

Hezekiah ordered the priests to make burnt offerings ⌊to Yahweh⌋ on the altar.

King Hezekiah told the sacrificers to begin making completely burned sacrifices on the sacrifice platform.

29:27b When the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD and the trumpets began as well,

When they began sacrificing, they also started singing to Yahweh.
-or-
When the sacrifices started, the people began singing to Yahweh.

29:27c accompanied by the instruments of David king of Israel.

Their singing was accompanied by ⌊the priests blowing⌋ the horns/bugles and ⌊the Levites playing⌋ the musical instruments of Israel’s King David.

They were joined by ⌊the musicians playing⌋ the blowing instruments and the instruments of David, the former king of Israel.

30:23a The whole assembly agreed to observe seven more days,

All the people gathered there agreed to celebrate the festival for another seven days.

Everyone there decided to continue observing the feast for seven (7) more days.

30:23b so they observed seven days with joy.

And so for seven more days they celebrated with joy.

And so the following week they continued celebrating in a joyful manner.

32:7a “Be strong and courageous!

“Be strong and brave.

32:7b Do not be afraid or discouraged

on account of the king of Assyria and his many soldiers.

33:6a He sacrificed his sons in the fire in the Valley of Hinnom.

He sacrificed his own children by burning them in the Ben Hinnom Valley.

33:6b He practiced sorcery, divination, and witchcraft, and consulted mediums and spiritists.

He sought out the future and practiced sorcery. He tried to discern ⌊the meaning of⌋ omens. He asked witches and magicians for advice.

He tried to predict the future and he used magic. He looked for signs of good and evil. He went to sorcerers and fortune-tellers for counsel.

33:6c He did great evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking Him to anger.

He did what displeased Yahweh and this made Yahweh angry with him.

He did bad things that Yahweh disliked, and Yahweh became angry with him.

34:13a were over the laborers

This group were supervisors of the bearers of loads

They were the leaders of the men who carried things

34:13b and supervised all who did the work, task by task.

and supervisors of the workers of various jobs.

34:13c Some of the Levites were secretaries, officers, and gatekeepers.

Some of the Levites were scribes, and officials, and guards at the gates.

Some other Levites were writers, bookkeepers and gate guards.

36:17b who put their young men to the sword in the sanctuary,

The king let his men kill their young men with the sword in the temple.

36:17c sparing neither young men nor young women, neither elderly nor infirm.

He had no compassion on young men or young women, nor on old people and the infirm.

36:17d God gave them all into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar,
