23:19a He stationed gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the LORD,

He also put people to guard the gates of Yahweh’s temple

He also put guards at the gates of Yahweh’s house.

23:19b so that nothing unclean could enter for any reason.

so that those who were unclean for any reason could not enter.

The guards did not allow anyone who was not ⌊ritually⌋ clean to enter.
