SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Chronicles 1:9

1:9a Now, O LORD God, let Your promise to my father David be fulfilled.

Now, Yahweh God, let your promise to my father David be fulfilled.

O Yahweh my God, keep the promise that you made to my father David

1:9b For You have made me king

You have made me be the king
-or-
because it is you who has made me to rule

1:9c over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.

for a people who are as many as the dust particles of the earth.

these people. They cannot be counted because they are as many as the specks of dust.

7:7a Then Solomon consecrated the middle of the courtyard in front of the house of the LORD,

Solomon declared the center part of the courtyard, in front of the temple of Yahweh, to be a holy place.

King Solomon set apart the central courtyard for worship. This courtyard was in front of Yahweh’s house.

7:7b and there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings,

There he offered animals as burnt offerings, and he offered the fat from the peace offerings.
-or-
He made completely burned sacrifices there, and burned the fatty parts from the sacrifices that bring peace with Yahweh.

7:7c since the bronze altar he had made could not contain all these offerings.

⌊He had to do this⌋ because the bronze altar that he had made was too small for all the burnt offerings, the gifts of grain, and the fat from the peace offerings.

⌊He offered them in the courtyard⌋ because the bronze platform for sacrifices he had built was not large enough. It did not have enough space for all the offerings of animals, and grain, and fat.

8:17 Then Solomon went to Ezion-geber and to Eloth on the coast of Edom.

Later, Solomon went to the towns of Ezion-geber and Eloth on the seashore of Edom.

After that, King Solomon traveled to Ezion-geber City and Eloth City. These cities were on the coast of Edom Country.

Solomon died and was buried with his ancestors.

The Levites even left their pasture land and their possessions. They came to Jerusalem and other places in Judah

The descendants of Levi even moved to Judah and Jerusalem Town. They left behind their grazing land and other things they owned.

11:14b because Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as priests of the LORD.

because King Jeroboam and his sons did not allow them to serve as priests of Yahweh.

They did this because King Jeroboam and his sons stopped the Levites from serving as Yahweh’s sacrificers.
