SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Chronicles 16:8

16:8a Were not the Cushites and Libyans a vast army

The Cushites and Libyans whom you fought were a mighty army

When you fought against the Cush people and the Libya people, they were a great army.

16:8b with many chariots and horsemen?

with many chariots and men on horseback.

They came with many war carts drawn by horses and men riding horses.

16:8c Yet because you relied on the LORD,

But when you relied on Yahweh,

Even so, when you trusted Yahweh to help you

16:8d He delivered them into your hand.

he helped you to defeat them.

The king of Israel replied to Jehoshaphat,

18:7b “There is still one man who can ask the LORD,

“There is still one prophet of Yahweh here through whom we can consult Yahweh.

“Yes, there is still a prophet of Yahweh here. He can help us to know the will of Yahweh.

18:7c but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me, but only bad.

But I hate him because he never receives good message from Yahweh for me. His messages are always bad.

But I despise him because he is always against me. He never has good news for me but only bad news.

18:7d He is Micaiah son of Imlah.”

He is Imlah’s son Micaiah.”

His name is Micaiah the son of Imlah.”

18:7e “The king should not say that!” Jehoshaphat replied.

Jehoshaphat replied, “You should not say things like that.”
