SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Chronicles 2:9

2:9a to prepare for me timber in abundance,

to supply me with a large quantity of timber.
-or-
to get as much wood as I need.

2:9b because the temple I am building will be great and wonderful.

⌊I will need lots of timber⌋ because I want to build a great and magnificent temple.
-or-
My desire is to build a large and beautiful house ⌊for God⌋.

4:6a He also made ten basins for washing

He also made ten wash basins.
-or-
King Solomon also had 10 pans made, to be used for washing.

4:6b and placed five on the south side and five on the north.

He put five (5) of the wash basins on the south/right side. He put the other five (5) basins on the north/left side.

4:6c The parts of the burnt offering were rinsed in them,

They washed the things for the burnt offerings in the pans.

4:6d but the priests used the Sea for washing.

The large Sea was for the priests/sacrificers to use for washing.

The priests/sacrificers used the water in the large basin for washing themselves.

6:2a and I have built You an exalted house,

But I have made a beautiful temple for you.

⌊O Yahweh,⌋ I have built this great house for you.

6:2b a place for You to dwell forever.”

6:34a When Your people go to war against their enemies, wherever You send them,

“It might happen that you command your people to go somewhere to fight their enemies.

6:34b and when they pray to You in the direction of the city You have chosen

They will pray to you from there. They will pray facing toward this city, the city you chose.

They will face toward ⌊Jerusalem⌋, your chosen city, when they pray to you.

6:34c and the house I have built for Your Name,

⌊They will face⌋ this temple, the temple I built to honor your name.

8:2a Solomon rebuilt the cities Hiram had given him

Then Solomon rebuilt the towns that King Hiram had given to him

⌊In the past,⌋ Hiram ⌊the king of Tyre⌋ had given King Solomon some cities as a gift. So he repaired these cities,

8:2b and settled Israelites there.

and brought Israelites to dwell there.

9:16a He also made three hundred small shields of hammered gold;

He also made three hundred small shields of beaten gold.

He also had people make three hundred (300) small shields. They used hammers to beat thin gold and covered them with it.

9:16b three hundred shekels of gold went into each shield.

He used three hundred (300) measures of gold to make each of these shields.

They used about one and a half (1½) kilograms of gold to cover each one.

They used about three (3) pounds of gold to cover each one.

9:16c And the king put them in the House of the Forest of Lebanon.

The king placed these shields in the Palace of the Lebanon Forest.

12:8a Nevertheless, they will become his servants,

Then they will know what it is like to serve foreign kings instead of serving me.”
