SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 2:25

2:25a So King Solomon sent the order to Benaiah son of Jehoiada,

So then King Solomon sent Jehoiada’s son Benaiah ⌊to Adonijah⌋,
-or-
Then King Solomon ordered Benaiah son of Jehoiada ⌊to kill Adonijah⌋.

2:25b who struck down Adonijah, and he died.

and Benaiah attacked and killed Adonijah.

So Benaiah put Adonijah to death.

You did not ask for many years of life.

3:11d or wealth for yourself

You did not ask for wealth for yourself,

You did not ask ⌊me⌋ ⌊to give⌋ you wealth/riches.

or to become rich/wealthy

3:11e or death for your enemies—

and you did not ask for your enemies to die.

3:11f but you have asked for discernment to administer justice—

But you have asked me to help you understand how to be a just leader/ruler!

4:15 Ahimaaz in Naphtali (he had married Basemath, a daughter of Solomon);

Ahimaaz was in charge of ⌊the land of⌋ Naphtali. Ahimaaz had married Solomon’s daughter Basemath.

Ahimaaz, who had married Solomon’s daughter Basemath, was responsible for ⌊the territory of⌋ Naphtali ⌊tribe⌋.

Solomon prepared to build the temple

5:13 Then King Solomon conscripted a labor force of 30,000 men from all Israel.

Then King Solomon ordered/forced 30,000 men from all over Israel to do some work for him.

7:21b The pillar to the south he named Jachin, and the pillar to the north he named Boaz.

He named the column on the right Jakin, and the column on the left he named Boaz.

He gave names to the two pillars. The pillar on the south side he named Jakin, ⌊that is, “he will make it firm”⌋. The pillar on the north side he named Boaz, ⌊that is, “in strength”⌋.

So they came to him at the festival time, along with the rest of the Israelites.
