SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 1:16

1:16a And Bathsheba bowed down in homage to the king,

Bathsheba bowed to him, ⌊honoring him by⌋ kneeling low before him, ⌊her face on the ground⌋.
-or-
Bathsheba lowered herself to the ground in front of the king, ⌊to show her great respect for him⌋.

1:16b who asked, “What is your desire?”

The king asked her, “What is your request?”

The king invited/encouraged her to tell him what she wanted ⌊from him⌋.

1:48a saying, ‘Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel!

And besides that, the king said: ‘Let ⌊people/everyone⌋ honor Yahweh, the God of Israel!

He praised Yahweh, the God of Israel,

1:48b Today He has provided one to sit on my throne, and my eyes have seen it.’”

This very day he has let me see with my own eyes the next/new king ⌊reigning⌋ on the throne where I have ⌊reigned⌋.’ ”

for choosing ⌊Solomon⌋ to follow him as king and allowing him to live to see it happen.”

for allowing him to witness his heir/⌊son⌋ ruling as king ⌊over Israel⌋ in his place.”

SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 2:27

2:27a So Solomon banished Abiathar from the priesthood of the LORD

Then Solomon dismissed Abiathar from serving as a priest of Yahweh.

So Solomon took away Abiathar’s authority to be Yahweh’s priest.

⌊Then he said/concluded,⌋ “But you (sing) may no longer serve/act as Yahweh’s priest.”

2:27b and thus fulfilled the word that the LORD had spoken at Shiloh against the house of Eli.

This accomplished what Yahweh had said at Shiloh about Eli’s family/descendants.

In this way the word/message that came from Yahweh ⌊to Samuel⌋ at Shiloh ⌊town⌋ concerning Eli’s family came true.

So Solomon fulfilled the promise that Yahweh had made at Shiloh to ⌊judge/punish⌋ Eli’s family.

3:13a Moreover, I will give you what you did not request—both riches and honor—

I will also give you (sing) both wealth and honor, the things you did not ask me for.

Besides this, I will give you what you did not request. I will give you riches as well as respect.

3:13b so that during all your days no man in any kingdom will be your equal.

As long as you live, no king will be your equal.

While you are alive, no king will be as ⌊great⌋ as you.

4:17 Jehoshaphat son of Paruah in Issachar;

Paruah’s son Jehoshaphat was in charge of ⌊the land of⌋ Issachar.

Paruah’s son Jehoshaphat was responsible for ⌊the territory belonging to⌋ the Issachar ⌊tribe⌋.

5:15 Solomon had 70,000 porters and 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains,

Solomon had seventy thousand ⌊stone⌋ movers/carriers and eighty thousand stone masons in the hill country.

There were also seventy thousand men to carry heavy loads and eighty thousand men/artisans to cut stones. These men worked for Solomon in the hilly/mountainous country.

7:23a He also made the Sea of cast metal. It was circular in shape,

Next Huram built the metal/bronze ⌊water reservoir/tank⌋ ⌊called⌋ the Sea. It was in the shape of a circle.

Huram also constructed ⌊a large basin/container⌋ ⌊that people called⌋ the Lake/Pool. It was round/circular and made out of bronze.

7:23b measuring ten cubits from rim to rim, five cubits in height,

It measured ten cubits from one side to the other, and five cubits in height.

It was a total of five meters across the top, and it was two and a half meters tall.

7:23c and thirty cubits in circumference.

The rim ⌊of this reservoir/tank⌋ measured thirty cubits around.
