SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 1:22

1:22 And just then, while Bathsheba was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet arrived.

Bathsheba was still speaking/talking with the king when the prophet Nathan arrived.

As Bathsheba was discussing these things with the king, ⌊God’s⌋ prophet Nathan came ⌊to see the king⌋.

Section 2:1-12

King David gave his final instructions to Solomon

2:1a As the time drew near for David to die,

The day/time for David to die was near.

⌊King⌋ David was now close to death.

⌊King⌋ David ⌊knew that⌋ he was about to die.

2:1b he charged his son Solomon,

He gave these directions/instructions to his son Solomon,

⌊So⌋ he instructed his son Solomon on his responsibility/duty.

He ⌊called for⌋ his son Solomon to give him some ⌊final/last⌋ commands.

SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 2:33

2:33a Their blood will come back upon the heads of Joab and his descendants forever;

Let the guilt of those murders remain on/with Joab and his family forever.

May ⌊God/Yahweh⌋ always hold Joab and his children/descendants responsible for killing those men.

2:33b but for David, his descendants, his house, and his throne,

SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 4:23

4:23a ten fat oxen, twenty range oxen, and a hundred sheep,

They also used/ate ten grain-fed cows, twenty grass-fed cows, and one hundred sheep.

⌊For meat he needed⌋ 10 good fat cattle, 20 ordinary cattle, and 100 sheep and/or goats.

4:23b as well as deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fattened poultry.

In addition they used/ate various wild deer, gazelles, and fattened domestic birds.

SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 6:3

6:3a The portico at the front of the main hall of the temple was twenty cubits long, extending across the width of the temple

The entryway to its great hall was/went along its entire width/front and was twenty cubits long.

There was an area in front of the temple hall that stretched/ran across the front wall. This area was ten meters long

6:3b and projecting out ten cubits in front of the temple.

It extended ten cubits out from ⌊the front wall of⌋ the house.

and five meters wide.

6:35a He carved into them cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers;

He carved images of cherubs, palm trees, and flower blossoms/blooms ⌊into the wood/doors⌋.

Solomon ⌊had his workmen⌋ decorate the sections/panels with carvings of cherubs, date palm trees, and flowers in full bloom.

6:35b and he overlaid them with gold, hammered evenly over the carvings.

Then he covered the carvings with a thin layer of gold.

SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 7:29

7:29a and on the panels between the uprights were lions, oxen, and cherubim.

There were ⌊bronze⌋ lions, bulls, and cherubs on the panels between the frames,

These ⌊metal/bronze⌋ sheets had ⌊figures of⌋ lions, horned cattle, and winged creatures ⌊molded/formed into them⌋.

7:29b On the uprights was a pedestal above,

and also on the frames themselves.

These same ⌊images/figures⌋ ⌊of lions, horned cattle, and winged creatures⌋ were ⌊molded/formed⌋ into the frames ⌊of the carts⌋ as well.

7:29c and below the lions and oxen were wreaths of beveled work.

The Hebrew word that the New International Version translates as “hammered” is a technical term and the exact meaning is uncertain.

There were circle/spiral shaped patterns in the metal, both above and below the lions and bulls.

Underneath as well as over these images/figures, ⌊Huram/they molded/formed⌋ decorative spirals.
