The Greek in 1 John 2:16 that is translated as “the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches” or similar in English is translated in the German New Testament translation by Berger / Nord (publ. 1999) with Blicke, die andere ausziehen oder arm machen or “looks that undress others or make them poor.”
