The Hebrew terms that are translated as “family” or “clan” or “house” or similar in English are all translated in Kwere as ng’holo or “clan.” (Source: Pioneer Bible Translators, project-specific translation notes in Paratext)

In the English translation by Goldingay (2018) it is translated as “kin-group.”

Jerusalem

The name that is transliterated as “Jerusalem” in English is signed in French Sign Language with a sign that depicts worshiping at the Western Wall in Jerusalem:

  • Kupsabiny: “and Mikloth who was the father of Shimeah. These people also lived in Jerusalem close to their relatives.” (Source: Kupsabiny Back Translation)
  • Newari: “Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They also lived near their relatives in Jerusalem.” (Source: Newari Back Translation)

Translation commentary on 1 Chronicles 9:38

This verse is virtually the same as 1 Chr 8.32 (see the comments there). Shime-am is called “Shime-ah” there, and Good News Translation uses the same spelling here.
