Translation commentary on 1 Chronicles 8:34

Merib-baal is called “Mephibosheth” in 2 Sam 4.4 and elsewhere in 2 Samuel. It will be necessary to help readers understand that the same person is intended. This may be done either through a footnote as in Good News Translation and Contemporary English Version or by using the same name throughout the text. Critique Textuelle de l’Ancien Testament gives an {A} rating to the Masoretic Text here.
