Translation commentary on 1 Chronicles 8:19 - 8:21

Good News Translation, New Century Version, Bible en français courant, Die Bibel im heutigen Deutsch, Parola Del Signore: La Bibbia in Lingua Corrente, and Nova Tradução na Linguagem de Hoje bring forward from verse 21 that the persons named in verses 19-21 were sons/descendants of Shime-i. Regarding the identification of Shime-i, see the comments on verse 13. If Shime-i is indeed a variant of the name “Shema” in verse 13, the two instances should probably be spelled the same way in order to avoid confusing the reader. Moffatt, for example, reads “Shema” in both verses. Otherwise a footnote will be required.

Eli-enai is a variant spelling of the name “Eli-o-enai,” which is the form that appears in 1 Chr 3.23. The two occurrences need not be spelled the same way in the text since the reference is to two different persons.
