1:8a I will cut off the ruler of Ashdod

I will cut off the ruler of Ashdod

I will kill the person who rules in Ashdod.

1:8b and the one who wields the scepter in Ashkelon.

and ⌊I will also cut off⌋ the one who is king in Ashkelon.

⌊I will also kill⌋ the person who rules ⌊the people of⌋ Ashkelon.

1:8c I will turn My hand against Ekron,

I will turn my hand to punish Ekron,

3:9a Proclaim to the citadels of Ashdod and to the citadels of Egypt:

⌊Amos said this to the leaders of Samaria⌋ , “⌊Send messengers⌋ to ⌊those people⌋ ⌊who live⌋ in their strong houses in Ashdod and Egypt. Tell them,
-or-
⌊God said to the prophet⌋ , “To those people who live in their strong houses in Ashdod and Egypt, tell them this:

3:9b “Assemble on the mountains of Samaria;

‘Present yourselves on the hills of Samaria.
-or-
‘Gather yourselves together up on the hills around Samaria.

3:9c see the great unrest in the city

See (plur.) how ⌊they are⌋ terrified ⌊by war⌋ ,
-or-
And see (plur.) how people are very afraid, ⌊because of the war going on around them⌋.

3:9d and the acts of oppression in her midst.”

and ⌊see (plur.) how⌋ they treat each other unfairly.’”

5:13a Therefore, the prudent keep silent in such times,

5:13b for the days are evil.

7:4a This is what the Lord GOD showed me:

7:4b The Lord GOD was calling for judgment by fire.

(Revised Standard Version) behold, the Lord God was calling for a judgment by fire;

Look! ⌊I saw⌋ the Lord Yahweh calling fire for punishment.

⌊In the vision⌋ the Lord Yahweh called burning fire to ⌊come and⌋ punish ⌊his people⌋ .

7:4c It consumed the great deep and devoured the land.

9:5d all the land rises like the Nile, then sinks like the river of Egypt—

2:4a This is what the LORD says:

2:4b “For three transgressions of Judah, even four, I will not revoke My judgment,

“For three crimes of Judah, even more ⌊crimes⌋ , I will not revoke the punishment.

2:4c because they reject the Law of the LORD

They have despised the instruction of Yahweh

⌊The people of Judah⌋ have thrown the teachings of Yahweh behind their back.

2:4d and fail to keep His statutes;

and ⌊they⌋ have not obeyed his statutes.

They have not done as he commanded them ⌊to do⌋ .

2:4e they are led astray by the lies

Instead, their falsehood has led them astray.

2:4f in which their fathers walked.

4:5a Offer leavened bread as a thank offering,

Burn (plur.) bread as a thanksgiving offering ⌊on the altar/place of sacrifice.⌋

Show/give (plur.) thanks ⌊to God⌋ by offering bread made with yeast ⌊and burning it⌋ .

4:5b and loudly proclaim your freewill offerings.

Proudly tell (plur.) others about it, you (plur.) people of Israel.

Brag (plur.) over it ⌊in front of other people⌋ , you Israelites,

4:5c For that is what you children of Israel love to do,”

Because boasting about such things is what you (plur.) love to do,”

You (plur.) ⌊are proud⌋ people, so go (plur.) and make (plur.) a big show/performance about the extra offerings you (plur.) give me. ⌊I know⌋ you (plur.) love to brag about yourselves (plur.).

4:5d declares the Lord GOD.

says Yahweh who is the Master/Lord of all.

5:24a But let justice roll on like a river,

⌊Instead⌋ let (plur.) people be fair ⌊to everyone⌋ all the time, like a river flows all the time.

⌊What I want is for you (plur.) to⌋ continually act with justice

5:24b and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

Let (plur.) them always do what is right, like a stream that never dries up.
