2:1a This is what the LORD says:

Yahweh says this,

This is what Yahweh said ⌊to me⌋ .

2:1b “For three transgressions of Moab, even four, I will not revoke My judgment,

“For three crimes of Moab, even more ⌊crimes⌋ , I will not revoke the punishment.
-or-
“I will certainly punish ⌊the people of⌋ Moab for the crimes they have done again and again.

2:1c because he burned to lime the bones of Edom’s king.

Because ⌊the people of Moab⌋ burned to lime the bones of Edom’s king.

4:2a The Lord GOD has sworn by His holiness:

The Lord, Yahweh, has promised by his holy name:

Yahweh, our (incl.) Master, has proclaimed an oath in his own holy name.

Yahweh, the holy Lord, has said ⌊to you (plur.) ⌋ ,

4:2b “Behold, the days are coming

“Certainly the time is coming

“I promise you (plur.) that soon there will be a time

He said that there will be a time

4:2c when you will be taken away with hooks,

when you (plur.) ⌊women⌋ will be dragged away with hooks.

when other people will catch you (plur.). With hooks they will pull you (plur.) to another place.

4:2d and your posterity with fishhooks.

5:21a “I hate, I despise your feasts!

5:21b I cannot stand the stench of your solemn assemblies.

I hate/reject your (plur.) religious festivals and assemblies. They bring me no joy.

7:12a And Amaziah said to Amos,

7:12b “Go away, you seer!

“Get out of here, you prophet!

7:12c Flee to the land of Judah;

Return (sing.) to the country of Judah.

Run (sing.) away and go back to the land of ⌊the people of⌋ Judah.

7:12d earn your bread there and do your prophesying there.

Prophesy (sing.) and earn your (sing.) bread ⌊to eat⌋ there.

9:13a “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD,

Yahweh says, “Look! The time is approaching

Yahweh has said, “A time is coming later ⌊when this will happen⌋ .

9:13b “when the plowman will overtake the reaper

when the grain will grow faster than people can harvest it

The person plowing ⌊the field⌋ will overtake the person gathering ⌊the grain⌋ .

9:13c and the treader of grapes, the sower of seed.

and the grapes ⌊will be⌋ ready for treading immediately after planting.

⌊This also will happen:⌋ the grapes will be ready for treading soon after ⌊the people⌋ have finished planting them.

9:13d The mountains will drip with sweet wine, with which all the hills will flow.

2:12a “But you made the Nazirites drink wine

“But you persuaded the Nazarites to drink wine

“But you (plur.) made the separated people ⌊to break their vows⌋ by causing them to drink wine.

2:12b and commanded the prophets not to prophesy.

and ⌊you (plur.) ⌋ commanded the prophets, “you must not prophecy!”

4:13a For behold, He who forms the mountains,

His name is Yahweh, the most powerful God.

My name is Yahweh. ⌊Remember!⌋ I am the one who created the mountains and the wind. I am the one who reveals my thoughts to mankind. I am the one who turns dawn to darkness. I am the one who walks on the heights of the earth. I am God, the one who commands the armies of heaven.

6:5 You improvise songs on the harp like David and invent your own musical instruments.

You (plur.) just create songs and play them on your harps like David did.

You (plur.) compose new songs and play them on your harps the way King David did.
