Section 7:1–9

Yahweh promised war to come against Israel

7:1a This is what the Lord GOD showed me:

This is what the Lord Yahweh showed to me.
-or-
⌊Amos continued to speak:⌋ These are the things that the Lord Yahweh revealed to me ⌊in a vision⌋ .

7:1b He was preparing swarms of locusts

(Revised Standard Version) behold, He was preparing swarms of locusts

Look! He was forming big groups of large grasshoppers
-or-
I saw Yahweh creating large groups of ⌊large insects called⌋ locusts.

7:1c just after the king’s harvest,

after the king’s share of the hay/grain was harvested.
-or-

⌊I saw this happen after the farmers⌋ cut/harvested the grass/crops of the king.

7:1d as the late spring crop was coming up.

This was just about when the late crops began to spring up.
-or-
It was also when the new young crops/grass started to grow again.

9:2a Though they dig down to Sheol,

Though they dig their way down to the place of the dead,
-or-
Even if they go down deep into the land of the dead,

9:2b from there My hand will take them;

I will catch them there.
-or-
I will take hold of them there.

9:2c and though they climb up to heaven,

If they climb up into the skies,
-or-
Even if they go up into the clouds,

9:2d from there I will pull them down.

I will make them come down ⌊to the earth⌋ .
-or-
my hand will take them back down from there.
