Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah, Shebna, and Joah answered the Rabshakeh,

Then Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to the chief aide/official from Assyria,
18:26b “Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, since we understand it.
“Kindly speak to us, (excl.) your servants, in Aramaic, because we understand it.

“Sir, please speak to us in the Aramaic language. We can understand it.
18:26c Do not speak with us in Hebrew in the hearing of the people on the wall.”
Do not speak in Hebrew, for the people on the wall will hear.”

Do not speak Hebrew, because all the people on the wall are listening.”
