2:21a and Elisha went out to the spring

Then Elisha went to the spring of water

Elisha ⌊took the bowl and⌋ walked to the water spring/source.

2:21b cast the salt into it, and said,

and threw the salt into it. He said,

Putting the salt into the spring, he said,

2:21c “This is what the LORD says:

“This is what Yahweh says:

“Yahweh says/declares that

2:21d ‘I have healed this water.

‘I have purified/cleansed this water.

he has made this water clean/pure.

2:21e No longer will it cause death

No longer will it cause anyone to die

From now on it will bring ⌊life⌋ not death.

2:21f or unfruitfulness.’”

nor will it make the land barren/useless.’”

Elisha helped a poor widow

4:1a Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha,

A woman ⌊who had been⌋ married to one of the young/assistant prophets came and called to/on Elisha ⌊to help her⌋ . She said,

One day⌋ a widow ⌊came⌋ to Elisha and asked for help. Her husband had been a member of the community of prophets. She said,

4:1b “Your servant, my husband, is dead,

“Respected sir, my husband is dead.

-or-

“My husband who respected/followed you (sing.) has died!

4:1c and you know that your servant feared the LORD.

You (sing.) know that/how he had great respect for Yahweh.

-or-

As you (sing.) know, he honored and obeyed Yahweh.

4:1d And now his creditor is coming

But now a man who had lent him money has come.

-or-

But he owed money to a man. ⌊I cannot pay it back.⌋ Now the man is on his way

-or-

But ⌊in the past⌋ he had borrowed ⌊a lot of⌋ money from a man. Now that man has come ⌊to me

4:1e to take my two children as his slaves!”

He wants to take my two sons to be his slaves.”

to take away my two sons and make them his slaves.”

to make my sons slaves ⌊as payment for the debt⌋ .”
