Section 2:1–16

It is the Holy Spirit who makes people truly wise

2:1a When I came to you, brothers,

My fellow believers, when I arrived in your city,
-or-
And as for me, my Christian brothers and sisters, when I came to ⌊Corinth⌋,

2:1b I did not come with eloquence or wisdom

I did not speak to you using important-sounding speech and I did not try to sound wise
-or-
I did not use big/fancy words, and I did no talk to you as though I knew more than others

2:1c as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.

(New Revised Standard Version) proclaiming the mystery of God to you

as I declared to you the mystery of God.
-or-
as I preached to you God’s hidden/secret message.

3:17d and you are that temple.

and you yourselves ⌊as a group⌋ are that very holy temple/place.
-or-
