The now commonly-used German term Abendmahl for the Eucharist or Communion (literally meaning “evening meal”) was first coined in 1522 in the German New Testament translation by Martin Luther. Note that the same term is also used by Luther to refer to the meal in Luke 14 and Revelation 3:20. (Source: Günther 2017, p. 46)
