Jesus' responses during the temptation

In Sierra de Juárez Zapotec, if a command is not answered it implies rudeness and reluctant consent. It was necessary therefore to have Jesus answer ‘no’ to the commands of the devil as they occur in the temptation account. Here the implied negative response of Jesus as understood in the quotations he used was made explicit with the direct answer ‘no.’ (Source: John Beekman in Notes on Translation November 1965, p. 1ff.)
