The inheritance of the children of sinners will perish: Nothing these children inherit will do them any good. They will lose it. Good News Translation has “They will lose whatever they inherit,” and Contemporary English Version says “They will lose everything they inherited.”

And on their posterity will be a perpetual reproach may be rendered “Their own children will live in permanent disgrace” (similarly Good News Translation), “Their own children will always be disgraced [or, lose face],” or even “People will always look down on their children.”
