Children will blame an ungodly father, for they suffer reproach because of him: The children of sinners, who live in disgrace, will know whom to blame for their condition. Therefore, sinners will not even be remembered favorably by their own descendants. Good News Translation has a good model here, but we may also restructure the verse as follows:

• When parents reject [or, do not revere] the Lord, their children will be disgraced [or, lose face] and blame their parents.
