to take up this ministry and apostleship: The Greek is literally “to take the place of this ministry/service and apostleship.” The phrase “this ministry/service and apostleship” probably indicates that the kind of ministry/service is being an apostle. The chosen man would take Judas’s place as an apostle and do the things an apostle should do. Here are some other ways to translate this phrase:

to take the place in this ministry of apostleship

to take the position of serving as an apostle
-or-
to serve as an apostle in the place of Judas (Good News Translation)

to become an apostle in ⌊Judas’s⌋ place and serve ⌊the Lord⌋ ⌊in that way⌋

abandoned: The Greek word that the Berean Standard Bible translates as abandoned is literally “turned aside” (as in the Revised Standard Version). Judas did not stay on the right “path.” He stopped being an apostle when he betrayed Jesus. Here are some other ways to translate this word:

to his rightful place: The Greek is literally “to his own place” (as in the Revised Standard Version). It refers to a place separate from the apostles and other believers because he betrayed Jesus. Here are some other ways to translate this phrase:
