Translation commentary on 2 Maccabees 2:12

Likewise Solomon also kept the eight days: The ceremonies at the dedication of the Temple in Solomon’s time lasted eight days (2~Chr 7.9), as did the rededication at the time of the Maccabees (1Macc 4.56). Rather than following Good News Bible, which does not identify which “festival” is in view here, we prefer the following model for this verse:

• The ceremonies had also lasted eight days when Solomon dedicated the Temple.
