David

The name that is transliterated as “David” in English means “beloved.” (Source: Cornwall / Smith 1997 )

In Spanish Sign Language it is translated with the sign signifying king and a sling (referring to 1 Samuel 17:49 and 2 Samuel 5:4). (Source: John Elwode in The Bible Translator 2008, p. 78ff. )

Section 5:2-10

King Solomon brought the ark of the covenant into the temple

5:2a At that time Solomon assembled in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—

At that time, Solomon called the elders of Israel to meet together in Jerusalem.

After that, King Solomon had all of Israel’s leaders come to Jerusalem.

5:2b all the tribal heads

These were all the leaders of the clans
-or-
He called the clan chiefs.

5:2c and family leaders of the Israelites—

and also the chiefs of the families of the people of Israel.
-or-
He also called the family leaders of Israel.

5:2d to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from Zion, the City of David.

They were to take the box that held Yahweh’s covenant from Zion, which is also called the City of David, up ⌊to the temple⌋.

King Solomon wanted them to move the chest that held Yahweh’s solemn agreement from Zion up ⌊to the temple⌋. (Zion was ⌊the part of Jerusalem⌋ also called the City of David.)
