καὶ ἔγνω Βακχίδης καὶ συνήγαγεν πᾶν τὸ πλῆθος αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῖς ἐκ τῆς Ιουδαίας παρήγγειλεν·
63When Bacchides learned of this, he assembled all his forces and sent orders to the men of Judea.
The name that is transliterated as “Judah” or “Judea” in English (referring to the son of Jacob, the tribe, and the territory) is translated in Spanish Sign Language as “lion” (referring to Genesis 49:9 and Revelation 5:5). When Bacchides learned of this may be expressed as “When Bacchides found out about this [or, what Jonathan and his men had done].”
He assembled all his forces refers to preparing the army to march; they were surely already together in one place, not scattered over the countryside. So we may say “he prepared his soldiers to march.”
And sent orders to the men of Judea means that he notified his supporters among the Jews that he was ready to act, and presumably told them to come and join him.
An alternative model for this verse is:
• When Bacchides learned what Jonathan and his men had done, he got his whole army ready to march, and told his supporters among the Jews to come and join him.
