9:28a Some of them were in charge of the articles used in worship,

Some gatekeepers/doorkeepers were in charge of the utensils used in temple service.

Some men ⌊from the clan of Levi⌋ had the responsibility for looking after the equipment ⌊for worship⌋ . They used it for ceremonies in the house of God.

9:28b to count them whenever they were brought in or taken out.

They had to count the temple utensils when they were brought back and when they were taken to be used. ⌊They did this to make sure none were missing.
