Translation commentary on 1 Chronicles 27:7

Asahel (verse 7), who is mentioned in 1 Chr 11.26, was killed before David became king of the whole country (see 2 Sam 2.18-23), and his son took his place.

27:7a The fourth, for the fourth month, was Joab’s brother Asahel,

The commander in charge⌋ of the fourth division was Joab’s brother Asahel. He served in the fourth month ⌊of the year⌋ .

Asahel was responsible for the fourth troop during the fourth month ⌊of the year⌋ . Asahel was the younger brother of Joab, ⌊who was the superior commander over all King David’s troops⌋ .

27:7b and his son Zebadiah was commander after him. There were 24,000 men in his division.

He supervised twenty-four thousand fighting men. Asahel’s son Zebadiah became the commander after ⌊his death⌋ .
