7:13a And if a woman has an unbelieving husband

Also, if a Christian woman is married to a man who does not believe ⌊in Jesus Christ⌋,

In the same way, when a woman who follows Christ has a husband who does not follow him,

Also, if you are a woman who believes in Jesus, and your husband is not a believer,

7:13b and he is willing to live with her,

and if he wants to remain married to her,

and he does not want her to leave,

and yet he himself is willing to continue being your husband,

7:13c she must not divorce him.

then she should not divorce him.

8:5a For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth

For even though ⌊for others⌋ there may be beings called gods, in heaven or on earth,

Some people may say that other gods do live, either in heaven or on earth.

8:5b (as there are many so-called gods and lords),

and in fact there are plenty of gods like this and plenty of lords,
-or-

⌊They actually worship/honor⌋ many such gods and ⌊try to please/serve⌋ many such powerful spiritual beings.

SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Corinthians 9:24

9:24a Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize?

Surely you (plur.) know that when people take part in a race, all of them run, but only one receives the prize.
-or-
Think about this: All the competitors run on the race track, but there is only one person who wins.

9:24b Run in such a way as to take the prize.

You (plur.) should run in the way that will win you the prize.
-or-
So, just as runners run to win, you should live your life to get God’s prize.

10:29a the other one’s conscience, I mean, not your own.

I am referring to that person’s heart, not your (plur.) heart.

I do not mean that you should not eat because you think it is wrong, but rather because the other person thinks it is wrong ⌊for you to eat it⌋.

10:29b For why should my freedom be determined by someone else’s conscience?

(New International Version) For why should my freedom be judged by anotherʼs conscience?

For why should another person judge my free act ⌊to be wrong⌋ because they think it is wrong?

When I am free to eat something, there is no reason/justification for another person to condemn me when I eat it. ⌊I should not let that happen.⌋

11:28 Each one must examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.

People should test themselves before they eat the ⌊communion⌋ bread and drink from the ⌊communion⌋ cup.

Before eating the bread and drinking the wine in the cup, you should look carefully at your own hearts/attitudes.

12:26a If one part suffers, every part suffers with it;

If one part suffers, all the other parts suffer with it.

14:14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays but my thoughts are not useful ⌊to me or to others⌋.

For if people pray using an unknown/miraculous language, although their heart/liver may pray, their brain doesn’t produce any helpful thing.

15:6a After that, He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once,

Afterwards, he appeared to more than five hundred believers at once.

Later, over five hundred of his followers/disciples saw him ⌊alive⌋ while they were gathered together.

15:6b most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.

Most of these people are still alive, although some have died.
