SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Corinthians 12:15

12:15a If the foot should say,

If the foot says,
-or-

For example,⌋ suppose a foot were to say that

12:15b “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,”

“I am not a hand so I do not belong to the body,”
-or-
it does not belong to the body because it is not a hand.

12:15c that would not make it any less a part of the body.

it does not stop being part of the body because it said that.
-or-
Even though it is not a hand, it is still a part of the body.

14:35a If they wish to inquire about something, they are to ask their own husbands at home;

If the women want to ask questions, they should ask their own husbands when they get home.
-or-
If one of the women wants to ask something, she should ask her own husband in private.

14:35b for it is dishonorable for a woman to speak in the church.

For it is shameful for women to speak during church meetings.
-or-
For it is improper/shocking for a woman to talk during a worship service.

SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Corinthians 15:27

15:27a For “God has put everything under His feet.”

For ⌊the scriptures say that⌋ “God has put everything under him.”
-or-
For ⌊it is written that⌋ God has placed everything in submission to Christ.

15:27b Now when it says that everything has been put under Him,

When the Scripture says that everything has been put under Christ,
-or-
The word “everything” in this Scripture

15:27c this clearly does not include the One

this does not mean that God has been put under Christ.
-or-
obviously does not include God himself.

15:27d who put everything under Him.

This is because God is the one who put everything under Christ.
-or-
God is the one who places everything under the authority of Christ.

2:10b by the Spirit.

by sending his Spirit.
-or-

SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Corinthians 4:3

4:3a I care very little, however,

But it does not matter to me
-or-
But it is not important to me

4:3b if I am judged by you or by any human court.

if you or anyone else judges/examines me.
-or-
whether you or any human authority think I have done my work well or not.

4:3c In fact, I do not even judge myself.

Even I do not judge myself.
-or-
In fact, I do not even evaluate how well I done my own work.
-or-
Actually I do not even try to assess/examine my own work.
