SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Corinthians 9:12

9:12a If others have this right to your support,

Because other ⌊apostles⌋ have the right to receive material support from you (plur.),
-or-
You accept that it is right/fitting to support other ⌊messengers of Christ⌋,

9:12b shouldn’t we have it all the more?

then don’t ⌊Barnabas and I⌋ have a greater ⌊right⌋ ⌊to such support⌋ ?
-or-
so surely it is even more right/fitting ⌊that you should support us (excl.)⌋ ⌊because we brought the gospel to you first⌋.

9:12c But we did not exercise this right.

But we (excl.) did not use this right ⌊to receive support⌋.
-or-
Nevertheless, we (excl.) did not ⌊let you pay us for our work⌋, even though it would be right/fitting.

9:12d Instead, we put up with anything

Rather, we (excl.) endure all kinds of ⌊difficulties
-or-
Instead, we (excl.) are willing to accept any ⌊hardship

9:12e rather than hinder the gospel of Christ.

to avoid hindering the gospel of Christ.
-or-
so that the good news about Christ may advance without any obstacles.
-or-
so that we (excl.) will not do anything that will make it hard for people to believe the gospel of Christ.

10:17a Because there is one loaf,

Because there is one loaf ⌊of bread⌋,
-or-
There is only one loaf/lump/piece ⌊of bread⌋,

10:17b we who are many are one body;

although⌋ there are many of us, we (incl.) are one body,
-or-
and we show that we are all united

10:17c for we all partake of the one loaf.

for we (incl.) all eat from the same loaf.
-or-
by eating together from that one loaf/lump/piece ⌊of bread⌋.

SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Corinthians 11:16

11:16a If anyone is inclined to dispute this,

If anyone wants to argue about this,
-or-
If people want to disagree about this,

11:16b we have no other practice, nor do the churches of God.

they should know that⌋ we (excl.) don’t give any other instructions, and nor do the churches of God.
-or-

I respond to them that⌋ this is our (excl.) custom, and that of the churches of God.

SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Corinthians 14:2

14:2a For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God.

This is because a person who speaks in an unknown tongue does not address people, but addresses God.
-or-
Those who speak in unknown/miraculous languages speak to God, not to people.

14:2b Indeed, no one understands him;

For no one understands him,
-or-
Truly, nobody knows what they are saying,

14:2c he utters mysteries in the Spirit.

but he speaks mysteries by the ⌊Holy⌋ Spirit.
-or-
but by the Spirit ⌊of God⌋ they speak hidden words.
