And opposite the gate on the north, as on the east, was a gate to the inner court: Like the outer east gatehouse, the outer north one also had a gatehouse across from it leading into the inner courtyard. See the comments on verse 19. It is acceptable to render as on the east as “like the outer east gatehouse” for clarity.
