5:3a This is what the Lord GOD says:

Here are the Lord Yahweh’s words ⌊to the nation of Israel⌋ :
-or-
Yahweh, our Master, says ⌊to you (plur.) ⌋ Israelites,
-or-
To ⌊the people/family of⌋ Israel, the Lord ⌊who is⌋ Yahweh says that

5:3b “The city that marches out a thousand strong will only see a hundred return,

“A city ⌊in the land of Israel⌋ will send out one thousand soldiers to battle, but only one hundred ⌊of them⌋ will return ⌊alive⌋ .
-or-
“From a thousand soldiers in your (plur.) city who will go ⌊to war⌋ , only a hundred soldiers/men will survive.
-or-
if an army of one thousand men from the city goes ⌊to fight⌋ , only a hundred men will survive.

5:3c and the one that marches out a hundred strong will have but ten left in the house of Israel.”

A town ⌊in Israel⌋ will send out one hundred soldiers, but only ten ⌊of them⌋ will return.”

From a hundred soldiers in your (plur.) town who will go ⌊to war⌋ , only ten soldiers/men will survive.”
