5:16a But Elisha replied,

⌊But⌋ the prophet replied,

But Elisha refused.

5:16b “As surely as the LORD lives, before whom I stand,

“As I stand before the living Yahweh, ⌊I swear to you (sing.) ⌋ that

-or-

“I swear by the living Yahweh who is my Lord/Master,

-or-

He swore in the name of the living Yahweh his Master that

5:16c I will not accept it.”

I will not accept anything ⌊from you (sing.) ⌋ .”

-or-

I will not accept any ⌊of your (sing.) gifts⌋ .”

-or-

he would not take any ⌊of Naaman’s gifts⌋ .

5:16d And although Naaman urged him to accept it, he refused.

Naaman begged him, but Elisha kept refusing.

-or-

Naaman tried to insist that Elisha accept ⌊the gifts⌋ , but Elisha still would not take them.
