22:3a Now in the eighteenth year of his reign,

Josiah was king ⌊of Judah⌋ for eighteen years.

When Josiah had reigned/ruled for eighteen (18) years,

22:3b King Josiah sent the scribe, Shaphan

⌊At that time⌋ he sent Shaphan his writer/scribe,

⌊one day⌋ he called for the palace recorder. His name was Shaphan

22:3c son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam,

who was the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam,

to the house of Yahweh.

Josiah’s secretary was ⌊a man named⌋ Shaphan, who was the son of Azariah and grandson of Meshullam. During the eighteenth year of his reign, Josiah sent for Shaphan and told him to take this message to the temple of Yahweh.
