“A man came and met us,” they answered the king. “And he told us,

1:6d Is it because there is no God in Israel
“⌊Do you (sing.) suppose that⌋ there is no God in ⌊the land/country of⌋ Israel?

“⌊You (sing.) are acting as though⌋ there were no God in Israel ⌊country⌋ .

“⌊You (sing.) seem to think that⌋ there is no God in Israel!
1:6e that you are sending these men to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?
Is that why you (sing.) are sending your messengers to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?
-or-
⌊You (sing.) are doing wrong⌋ to send your men to ask/inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron ⌊city⌋ !
-or-
⌊That must be why⌋ you (sing.) have sent your servants to ⌊the foreign city⌋ Ekron, to its ⌊false⌋ god Baal-Zebub!
1:6d-e (reordered)
“Why have you (sing.) sent your messengers/servants to ask/inquire from Baal-Zebub, the god whom the people of Ekron ⌊city⌋ worship? Is it because ⌊you think that⌋ there is no God in Israel?
1:6f Therefore you will not get up from the bed on which you are lying.
Therefore you (sing.) will not get up from the bed you (sing.) are lying on.

Because you (sing.) did this, you (sing.) will never recover from your injury.

So you (sing.) will not leave your bed ⌊alive⌋ .
1:6g You will surely die.’”
It is certain that you (sing.) will die!”’”
