SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 1:5

1:5a When the messengers returned to the king,

The messengers then went back to the king.

-or-

The men ⌊at once⌋ returned to King Ahaziah.

-or-

So the king’s servants ⌊did not go to the city of Ekron⌋ but went straight back to him.

1:5b he asked them, “Why have you returned?”

He asked them, “Why have you (plur.) returned ⌊already⌋ ?”

-or-

The king asked them, “Why are you (plur.) back ⌊so soon/quickly⌋ ?”

-or-

The king asked them why they had come back ⌊to Samaria⌋ .
