SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 13:9

13:9a And Jehoahaz rested with his fathers

Jehoahaz went to be with his ancestors,

-or-

Then Jehoahaz ⌊died and⌋ passed/went to his ancestors/grandfathers.

13:9b and was buried in Samaria.

and he was buried in ⌊the city called⌋ Samaria.

-or-

His people⌋ buried him in Samaria ⌊city⌋ .

13:9c And his son Jehoash reigned in his place.

The name Jehoash is here spelled Joash in the Hebrew text. However, it is spelled as Jehoash in 13:10b. In order to help your readers follow the story, it is recommended that the name of the king of Israel always be spelled as Jehoash. It is probably best to use the spelling Joash only for the name of the king of Judah (13:10a).

His son Jehoash became the next king.

-or-

Then/And Jehoash his son reigned/ruled in his place.
