8:35a When the skies are shut and there is no rain

“In days to come, the skies will/may fail to give rain
-or-
“A time will come when ⌊you (sing) do not allow⌋ any rain to fall.

8:35b because Your people have sinned against You,

because your people have sinned against you.
-or-

⌊You will do this to punish⌋ your people, when they do what is wrong.

8:35c and they pray toward this place and confess Your name,

Then they will pray ⌊looking⌋ toward this place, and worship your name.
-or-
Then your people may face this temple and pray. They may praise you for who you are.

8:35d and they turn from their sins because You have afflicted them,

They will stop sinning against you, because you have caused them to suffer.

They may stop doing wrong, because you have punished them.
