8:33a When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy

“⌊In days to come,⌋ your (sing) people Israel will/may be defeated by an enemy nation,
-or-
“⌊In the future,⌋ enemies will fight and conquer/overcome your people the Israelites.

8:33b because they have sinned against You,

because the people of Israel sinned against you.
-or-
This will happen because your people will have done what is wrong.

8:33a-b (reordered)

“Your (sing) people Israel may sin against you ⌊at some future time⌋. Then ⌊you will allow⌋ a hostile nation to defeat them ⌊in battle⌋.

8:33c and they return to You and confess Your name,

Later they will/may return to you and worship your name.
-or-
At that time, they may stop doing wrong, and come back to you. Then they will worship you

8:33d praying and pleading with You in this temple,

They will ⌊come to⌋ this ⌊your (sing) ⌋ house and pray, asking you to show them mercy.
-or-
and pray to you in this temple. They will ask for your help.
