SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 8:32

8:32a then may You hear from heaven and act.

If/When this happens,⌋ then from heaven hear ⌊what he has sworn⌋ and then do ⌊justice⌋.
-or-
Please hear ⌊his oath⌋ ⌊where you are⌋, in heaven, and judge ⌊between the two men/Israelites⌋.

8:32b May You judge Your servants,

Judge between these people, your servants.
-or-
Decide which of your servants ⌊is in the right⌋.

8:32c condemning the wicked man by bringing down on his own head what he has done,

Condemn the guilty person and punish him according to ⌊the wrong⌋ he has done.
-or-
Please declare which person is in the wrong. Punish him in a way that fits ⌊the evil deed⌋ he has done.

8:32d and justifying the righteous man by rewarding him according to his righteousness.

Show which person is righteous. Do good to him, as he is innocent.
-or-
Please declare which person has done nothing wrong. Do not punish him, since he has done what is right.
