3:3a And Solomon loved the LORD

Solomon loved Yahweh.

Solomon was devoted to Yahweh,

3:3b and walked in the statutes of his father David,

He obeyed the commands his father David had given him,

so he lived by the orders/rules that his father ⌊King⌋ David had given him.

3:3c except that he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

but he kept offering sacrifices and burning incense at the local/hilltop shrines.

However, he did continue to offer/sacrifice ⌊animals⌋ and ⌊sweet-smelling⌋ spices at various/different places of worship.
