1:38a Then Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, along with the Cherethites and Pelethites, went down

Then the priest Zadok, the prophet Nathan, Jehoiada’s son Benaiah, and the Kerethites and Pelethites, ⌊the king’s guards,⌋ all went to Solomon.

Then Zadok, Nathan, Benaiah and ⌊the royal bodyguards called⌋ the Kerethites and the Pelethites went and met Solomon,

1:38b and set Solomon on King David’s mule,

They gave him King David’s mule to ride

⌊bringing him⌋ King David’s personal mule. Solomon mounted/rode it,

1:38c and they escorted him to Gihon.

and then accompanied him to Gihon.
